About Carrier Connection: Supporting Your Babywearing Journey

Carrier Connection isn’t just a baby carrier rental service—it’s a community dedicated to supporting caregivers on their babywearing journey. Whether you’re new to babywearing or experienced, our goal is to provide the resources, education, and support you need to bond with your little one while feeling confident and comfortable.

The inspiration for Carrier Connection came during our founder’s babywearing studies. She noticed a troubling gap: many areas lacked access to in-person babywearing support or lending libraries. Carrier Connection was born to fill that need, offering a convenient, nationwide online lending library paired with expert education and guidance.

At Carrier Connection, we do more than provide carriers. We build connections—between parents and caregivers, between our members, and most importantly, between caregivers and the children they love.

Rachael Southworth, Founding Educator

Hi, I’m Rachael, the founding educator behind Carrier Connection. My journey into babywearing began after the home birth of my second child. Surrounded by amazing birth workers, I felt inspired to contribute to the perinatal support space. After reflection and research, I found my passion in babywearing education, a practice that empowers caregivers and strengthens the bond between them and their children.

I’ve dedicated myself to learning as much as possible about babywearing. My training includes:

Completing the Babywearing for Perinatal Professionals course.
Pursuing advanced education with Adjoyn.
Volunteering as a leader with New York Babywearing, a nonprofit babywearing library.
2024-2025 President of New York Babywearing
Peer elected group expert in Babywearing 101 facebook support group.

Why I Started Carrier Connection

Throughout my training, I saw caregivers asking the same questions in online forums, especially “What is the best carrier?” The reality is, there isn’t one “best” carrier—it’s about finding the right carrier for your unique needs. This realization drove me to help parents and caregivers navigate their options with confidence and support.

Unfortunately, when I recommended caregivers visit their local babywearing libraries, I discovered many communities had no access to these valuable resources. Recognizing the need for both education and access, I launched Carrier Connection as an online learning and lending library, providing support to families everywhere.

Madeleine "Maddie" Song, Operations Support & Admin

I’m Maddie—one half of Carrier Connection operations and admin! You’ll usually find me answering emails, cleaning spreadsheets, or meticulously cataloging wrap qualities and carrier features to build the ULTIMATE LIBRARY. I’m a mega nerd for fiber arts, environmental science, and movement arts; running a babywearing library feels like the perfect fusion of all my favorite things.

Pre-baby, I thought babywearing would just be a convenient way to free up my hands—turns out, it would become absolutely essential. When my healthy barnacle baby doubled her birthweight in just three months, I realized my ring sling was the only thing keeping my shoulders in their sockets! Babywearing has made motherhood immeasurably better, and I love sharing its sanity- and body-saving magic with others.

After far too many nights scrolling BST (look, we’ve all been there), I ended up with a surprisingly large stash and a realization: many communities don’t have access to local babywearing support. Apparently, great minds think alike and I was connected with Rachael through other babywearing librarians. We teamed up to build Carrier Connection into a community that offers access to a wide variety of carriers to reduce production waste, promote education, and support families where in-person help isn’t available.

As a former circus artist, costumer, and coach across multiple sports, I bring a unique lens to finding the right fit. I love analyzing body composition and matching it to carrier preferences—it's an integral part of our carrier concierge service. My background in movement arts and adaptive sports also helps me support caregivers with mobility concerns or injuries to find a carrier (or movement pattern) that works for their body.

I truly believe everybody needs a carrier and there’s a carrier for every body—you might just need a little help finding yours! Building this library with Rachael has been such a joy, and it’s incredible to witness the difference the “right one” can make for babywearers.
